A lovely SEND School based in Islington, N7,  is looking for a Special Needs Teacher with previous ASD experience to join them in September 2024 on a full time basis.

Job Description

Ideally, the successful teacher will have a proven track record working in an SEN environment but the Headteacher will consider a primary trained teacher with a passion for SEN, a proven track record as a teacher and a can-do attitude.

The successful SEN teacher will be teaching a mixed KS1 class (6 pupils) with Autism. The majority of the children have additional medical and sensory needs as well as physical impairments. The class consists of 6 pupils who are all working at P levels, as a result, experience of the EYFS curriculum would be advantageous, though not essential. As a SEND teacher, you must be able to demonstrate the ability to accommodate your lessons to meet the individual needs of your students to achieve progression academically, socially and physically. You will be working alongside two really friendly learning support assistants (LSAs) who know the children and the school procedures well and will help you get up to speed quickly. Some experience of PECS and Makaton would be advantageous but training is available. Alongside the staff you will be responsible for safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children and young people.

The successful Special Needs Teacher will be flexible, with the ability to use their initiative where required. Experience working in an SEN school or with children with Autism would be an advantage but the school are clear that they want a good teacher first and foremost - excellent training is available. They would be more than happy to support an excellent practitioner with a passion for SEN but limited SEN experience.

This role is to start in September 2024 and will be a full-time role that continues for the rest of the academic year. There is a high potential for this role to become permanent.

To be considered for this role you will need:

  • Must have QTS
  • Demonstrable knowledge of and a passion for SEND
  • Makaton and PECS -not essential but highly desirable
  • Experience working with Autism and Complex Needs

Additional requirements:

  • References confirming suitability for role
  • Commitment to Safeguarding
  • Enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service
  • Eligibility to work in the UK

Benefits

  • Support from dedicated and knowledgeable specialist consultants
  • Continual professional development through online training
  • Competitive pay rates related to your experience
  • Opportunities within a range of schools and provisions
  • Refer a friend bonus with £150 in vouchers
