About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and resilient SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school in Chester on a full-time, long-term basis.

This is a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference in the lives of young people who require additional support to overcome barriers to learning.

Alongside the staff you will be responsible for safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children and young people.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Support students in managing behaviour and developing emotional regulation skills.
  • Work closely with teachers and the pastoral team to implement individual support plans.
  • Promote a positive, safe and inclusive learning environment.
  • Build strong, professional relationships with pupils to encourage engagement and progress.
  • Assist with classroom activities and adapt resources to meet individual needs.

The Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Have experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs (school-based experience desirable).
  • Demonstrate patience, empathy and strong behaviour management skills.
  • Be resilient, calm under pressure and consistent in approach.
  • Have excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Hold a relevant Teaching Assistant qualification (Level 2/3 desirable but not essential).
  • Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

o References confirming suitability for role

Commitment to Safeguarding

o Enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service

o Eligibility to work in the UK
