Description

Are you passionate about teaching English Literature and are you be able to engage students who face barriers to learning?

Chalk Education are recruiting for an English Teacher for a long-term placement, with a view to becoming permanent, starting as soon as possible or in September 2025. This is the perfect opportunity to join a dynamic, multi-site Alternative Provision in Nottingham.

This role will involve planning and delivering English up to GCSE level, on a 1:1 basis, or to small classes (5 - 10 students) of students, all of whom have an identified additional need including SEMH, EBD, ASC or ADHD. You will need to be able to teach English to GCSE level and knowledge of Functional Skills English would be advantageous. For this English Teaching role, you will need to build relationships with students, show understanding and have a creative approach to learning.

This leading alternative provision provides a bespoke curriculum to young people who are not able to access mainstream education. Students have a range of SEND including Social Emotional & Mental Health, Moderate Learning Difficulties and Autistic Spectrum Disorder. Pupils may display challenging behaviour, so excellent behaviour management is essential with knowledge of a range of de-escalation techniques.

Alongside the staff you will be responsible for safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children and young people.

To be considered for this English Teacher role you will need:

  • A teaching qualification or recent experience as an English Teacher (not TESOL/ESL/TEFL)
  • Recent experience working with children/young people, aged 8 – 16 years
  • Good subject knowledge specialising in English Literature
  • Recent experience preparing students for GCSE examinations
  • Experience with SEND, such as SEMH, MLD and ASD
  • Excellent behaviour management
  • Flexible and calm approach, with a caring attitude
