Learning Support Assistant (SEND)
Location: St Helens
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 3:30pm (Term Time Only)
Contract: Full Time, Initial 1-Term Placement with Opportunity to Extend
Chalk Education is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to join a small specialist SEND school/provision in St Helens. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic individual who is passionate about supporting children and young people with additional needs to achieve their full potential.
The role is initially for one school term, with the potential for extension for the right candidate.
The Role
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff to support pupils with a range of additional needs, predominantly Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. You will help to create a positive, nurturing, and engaging learning environment where every learner can thrive.
Essential Requirements
- Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification
- Previous experience supporting children or adults with additional needs
- Knowledge and understanding of Autism and/or SEMH needs
- Patient, resilient, and adaptable approach
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support to learners
- Support pupils' social, emotional, and academic development
- Assist with implementing individual learning and behaviour support plans
- Promote positive behaviour and engagement in learning
- Work collaboratively with teachers and other professionals to meet individual needs
- Help create a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment
- Commitment to safeguarding
