Chalk Education is recruiting a dedicated and resilient classroom-based Youth Worker to support KS4 students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs within a specialist provision in Leigh.
This is a long-term temporary, full-time, term‑time only role, working Monday to Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm. It offers a highly rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference to young people who require additional support to engage in education and develop positive, lasting behaviours.
Role Overview
As a Youth Worker, you will work with students aged 14–16 who present with SEMH needs and associated behavioural challenges. Your role will involve providing targeted support both inside and outside the classroom, helping students to regulate their emotions, build resilience, and re-engage positively with learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support to KS4 pupils
- Implement behaviour support strategies and individual behaviour plans
- Build positive, professional, and trusting relationships with students
- Support emotional regulation and help pupils develop coping strategies
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff
- Promote a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Experience working with young people with SEMH needs
- Strong and consistent behaviour management skills
- A calm, patient, and resilient approach
- The ability to build trust and rapport with challenging students
- Experience in alternative provisions, PRUs, or specialist SEN settings (desirable)
