About Us

Chalk Education are working with this dedicated Special Educational Needs (SEN) school that provides a supportive and inclusive environment for children with a range of learning disabilities, including Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD). We pride ourselves on our child-centred approach and our commitment to enabling every student to reach their full potential.

The Role

We are seeking a compassionate and motivated SLD Teaching Assistant to join our team. You will be working closely with teachers and other support staff to provide tailored support for children with severe learning difficulties, helping them to engage with their education and develop essential life skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting students with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) in their educational and social development.
  • Assisting the teacher in implementing Individual Education Plans (EHCPs) and adapted lesson plans.
  • Encouraging and supporting communication, social interaction, and independence in a nurturing environment.
  • Providing personal care where necessary, including feeding and toileting support.
  • Using creative and sensory-based learning techniques to engage students effectively.
  • Promoting a positive and inclusive learning atmosphere within the classroom.
  • Supporting students during break and lunchtime activities.
  • Liaising with parents, carers, and multi-disciplinary teams to ensure students’ needs are met.

What We Are Looking For

  • Experience working with children with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) or other complex needs (desirable but not essential).
  • A caring and patient nature with a strong desire to support children with SEN.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • A proactive and adaptable approach to supporting learning.
  • Relevant qualifications such as CACHE Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or equivalent (desirable).
  • Experience with Makaton, PECS, or other communication systems is an advantage.
  • An enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
