An ‘Outstanding’ Autistic unit attached to a mainstream Primary School in Haringey, N17, is seeking SEN Teaching Assistants who specialize in Autism to join their team in September 2024 on a full-time, long-term basis.

Job Description:

The successful Special Needs Teaching Assistants will provide 1:1 classroom support for autistic pupils and lead group activities. As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will develop students' social communication, interaction, and interpretation skills, actively fostering their confidence, self-esteem, and independence.

The ideal SEN teaching assistant will be committed to supporting learners with diverse needs, flexible in approach, and able to work effectively as part of a team. You will collaborate with staff to safeguard and protect the welfare of children and young people.

The school seeks Special Needs Teaching Assistants with excellent communication skills, a good sense of humour, and a great deal of patience and enthusiasm. Previous experience with SEND is essential. Understanding and experience with Makaton, PECs, and sensory approaches are advantageous but not mandatory.

To be considered for this role, you will need:

• Experience with ASD and willingness to provide personal care
• Strong Behaviour Management skills
• Excellent literacy and numeracy skills
• Dedication and passion for education
