The Opportunity

A respected Southwark special‑needs primary school is expanding this September, creating additional specialist places for pupils with profound & multiple learning difficulties (PMLD) and severe learning difficulties (SLD). We are looking for Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) who will shape the culture, routines and success of the new site from day one.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver a highly sensory, play‑based curriculum 1:1 and in very small groups.
  • Use Makaton, PECS, objects of reference, etc to develop functional communication.
  • Provide dignified personal care—feeding, toileting, hoisting, positioning—throughout the day.
  • Implement bespoke physio, SALT and OT programmes under therapist direction.
  • nt is visible and celebrated.
  • Contribute to a calm, safe environment where children feel understood, valued and joyful.

Person Profile — What You’ll Need

Essential

  • Hands‑on experience with children or adults who have PMLD/SLD or complex medical needs.
  • Genuine comfort with personal and intimate care; manual‑handling competence.

Desirable

  • Team‑Teach, MAPA or similar positive‑handling certification.
  • Makaton, PECS or eyegaze/switch technology experience.
  • Level 3 Supporting Teaching & Learning (or equivalent) qualification.
