Description
This is not your average Teaching Assistant role.
We’re looking for an enthusiastic and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to support young people in a unique outdoor learning environment. Working on a 2:1 basis with a qualified tutor, this role combines education, behaviour support, and real-world experiences to help students thrive outside of traditional classroom settings.
What’s different about this role?
Instead of four walls and whiteboards, expect learning to take place through real-life activities and outdoor experiences – including trips to museums, sports sessions, fishing, libraries, and other enriching environments that help re-engage learners who struggle in mainstream education.
You’ll be working with young people who present with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs and may display challenging behaviour. This means resilience, patience, and a proactive attitude are key. But the rewards? Huge. You’ll see the difference your support makes every day.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supporting the lead tutor with planning and delivering creative, hands-on learning
- Building positive relationships with students to promote engagement and trust
- Supporting behaviour management strategies tailored to individual needs
- Assisting with off-site visits and helping create a safe, stimulating environment
What We’re Looking For:
- Previous experience working with SEMH or challenging behaviour preferred
- A calm, confident, and flexible approach
- A genuine passion for alternative education
- A driver’s licence is desirable due to the nature of off-site activities
This is a long-term position with the potential to become permanent for the right person. If you’re ready to break the mould and make a real difference in a young person’s life, we’d love to hear from you.
