Job Vacancy: SEMH Teacher - Vocational Provision Unit (VPU)
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:00pm
Pay: £180 – £225 per day (depending on experience)

Chalk education are seeking a dedicated, empathetic, and resilient SEMH Teacher to join a Vocational Provision Unit (VPU) in birkenhead , working with an all-female student cohort. Due to the specific needs of the students, this position is open to female applicants only.

About the Role

You will be supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, many of whom have experienced trauma, attachment difficulties, and barriers to learning. The role involves delivering engaging, personalised learning while creating a safe, relational, and highly nurturing environment.

Alongside the staff you will be responsible for safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children and young people.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver tailored lessons appropriate to SEMH learners
• Build trusting, stable relationships grounded in trauma-informed practice
• Support learners’ wellbeing, emotional regulation, and engagement
• Work closely with the wider team to ensure consistent strategies and support
• Promote positive behaviour and a calm, structured learning environment

About You

• Experience working with SEMH students or vulnerable young people in a VPU setting
• Strong understanding of trauma-informed and attachment-aware approaches
• Calm, patient, and able to de-escalate challenging situations
• Able to build rapport and maintain professional boundaries
• Committed to safeguarding and supporting young people to re-engage in learning
