Chalk Education is recruiting a dedicated and resilient Learning Support Assistant to support KS4 students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in a specialist provision in Atherton.
This is a highly rewarding role where you will make a meaningful impact on young people who need additional support to engage with learning and develop positive behaviour.
Role Overview
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work with students aged 14–16 who present with SEMH needs and behavioural challenges. Your role will involve providing targeted support in and out of the classroom, helping pupils regulate emotions, build resilience, and re-engage with their education. This role is a long term temporary role, full time Monday to Friday 8.30-3.30, term time only.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver 1:1 and small‑group behavioural support
- Implement behaviour strategies and individual support plans
- Build positive and professional relationships with students
- Support emotional regulation and develop coping strategies
- Work effectively with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams
- Promote a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment
The Ideal Candidate
- Experience supporting young people with SEMH needs
- Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
- Calm, patient, and consistent approach
- Ability to build trust and rapport with challenging pupils
- Experience in alternative provisions, PRUs, or specialist settings (desirable)
