Position: Learning Mentor (Primary & Secondary SEMH)
Pay Rate: £90 – £120 per day (DOE)
Location: Stockport, Manchester (Special Educational Needs School)
Contract Type: Full-time, 6-month contract (Start date: 19/01/26)
Are you a resilient Learning Mentor or SEN Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs? Chalk Education is working in partnership with a specialist primary setting in Longsight that supports children who face emotional and behavioural barriers to learning.
The school offers a structured, relationship led environment where consistency, clear boundaries, and emotional support are central to everyday practice. With small classes and strong staff collaboration, pupils are supported to develop emotional regulation, build trust with adults, and re-engage positively with education.
As a Learning Mentor, you will work closely with pupils presenting with SEMH needs such as emotional dysregulation, anxiety, attachment difficulties, and challenging behaviour. You will support behaviour management strategies, deliver targeted interventions, and work alongside teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to help pupils access learning in a calm and inclusive way.
The successful candidate will:
- Have experience supporting children with SEMH needs
- Be confident in managing challenging behaviour using positive and consistent approaches
- Hold Team Teach training, or be willing to undertake this
- Have experience working in SEN or specialist education settings
- Demonstrate strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Be patient, resilient, and adaptable in a fast-paced environment
- Show a strong commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing
- Have previous experience working in UK schools
Essential requirements:
- Suitable professional references
- An enhanced DBS certificate registered on the Update Service
- Right to work in the UK (no visa sponsorship available)
