The opportunity

A friendly, inclusive primary school in the heart of Stoke Newington (N16) is looking for a confident SEN Teaching Assistant to join its Early Years team right away and remain for the full 2025-26 academic year. You’ll work 1-to-1 and in small groups with pupils who have a mix of complex learning needs and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), helping them access our play-based curriculum and develop social-communication skills.

What you’ll be doing

  • Delivering tailored interventions planned by the class teacher and SENDCo.
  • Using visual timetables, PECS, AAC or Makaton to support receptive and expressive language.
  • Promoting emotional regulation and positive behaviour through consistent routines.
  • Assisting with personal care where required, always preserving pupils’ dignity.
  • Maintaining clear, concise pupil progress notes to feed back at weekly reviews.
  • Working closely with therapists, outside agencies and parents to ensure joined-up support.

What we’re looking for

  • Proven classroom or nursery experience with ASD and/or complex needs.
  • Calm, patient manner and the resilience to adapt plans on the spot.
  • Confidence using (or willingness to learn) contemporary SEN strategies and resources.

Why join this school?

  • Strong, collaborative inclusion culture led by an experienced SENDCo.
  • Small, single-form entry means every child—and every colleague—gets to be known.
  • Ongoing CPD in SCERTS, Attention Autism and sensory-integration approaches.
  • Consistent working hours (08:30-15:45) and direct, on-site support from senior leaders.

Pay & contract

  • £90 – £110 per day, paid weekly.
  • Full-time, term-time contract through to July 2026, with the possibility of going permanent.

This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check and safeguarding references in line with KCSIE (2024).

Make a tangible difference every single day—support our youngest learners to thrive from the very start of their school journey.
