Chalk is recruiting for this SEND Teaching Assistant position which is a long-term placement starting as soon as possible and is the perfect opportunity to join a nurturing Special School in Birmingham.

 

Job Description

This role will involve supporting children on a one-to-one basis and in small groups within the classroom. You will assist the class teacher to engage pupils across various lessons with a multi-sensory focus; adapting activities to suit the specific needs of individuals. Experience and understanding of a range of SEND is necessary and knowledge of skills to support alternative communication techniques, such as Makaton, and is familiar with using visual prompts; the ideal teaching assistant will confidently interact with and respond the pupils with complex needs, ensuring their day is enriching and fun.

This role will suit a TA who is resilient and passionate about helping and supporting pupils with complex needs.

This special school in Coventry cater for young people aged 7 to 18 with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) including complex needs, physical disabilities, Speech Language & Communication Needs (SLCN) Profound & Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD). All pupils attending this school, are looked after children (LAC). They have excellent facilities and aim to provide the best education to all young people, making this the ideal opportunity for a caring TA.

Alongside the staff you will be responsible for safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children and young people.

To be considered for this role you will need:

  • Experience supporting young people with SEND and complex needs.
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills with knowledge across the curriculum.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A positive attitude and flexible approach

  • Enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service
