Contract: Full-time, term-time (08:30 – 15:30, Monday–Friday)
Rate: £90 – £120 per day (PAYE DOE)
Start: ASAP (May / June 2025)
The role
An Ofsted-rated Good primary school with a dedicated Social, Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH) unit is seeking an inspiring Behaviour Mentor to join their vibrant inclusion team. You’ll work 1:1 and in small groups, guiding pupils (aged 5-11) who present challenging behaviour linked to SEMH needs, helping them re-engage with learning and develop positive coping strategies.
Day-to-day responsibilities
- Coach & mentor pupils using restorative approaches, Zones of Regulation and positive reinforcement.
- Co-plan interventions with the SENCo and class teachers; track and celebrate progress.
- De-escalate incidents calmly, following school behaviour and safeguarding policies.
- Model emotional literacy and resilience, acting as a trusted adult for children in crisis.
- Liaise with parents, external agencies and the pastoral team to ensure wrap-around support.
We’d love to hear from you if you have
- Proven experience supporting children with SEMH / challenging behaviour (school, youth work, PRU, residential care, sports coaching or similar).
- A genuine passion for inclusion and turning “can’t” into “can”.
- Restraint/positive handling or Team-Teach training (or willingness to undertake).
- Up-to-date Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or happy to apply).
- Excellent communication, bucket-loads of patience and a sense of humour!
