Contract: Full-time, starting ASAP until July 2025
A vibrant and welcoming one-form entry Primary School in Waltham Forest (E10) is seeking a dedicated Special Needs Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a Year 1 pupil with Autism and Speech & Language Difficulties. This child does not present behavioural challenges but requires gentle guidance to stay focused on class tasks, as well as support with communication.
Key Responsibilities
- Offer 1:1 assistance in class, ensuring the pupil remains engaged and on task
- Use strategies and resources (including PECS and Makaton) to support the pupil’s communication
- Promote and improve numeracy and literacy skills
- Collaborate with teaching staff to safeguard and protect the welfare of children
- Build a positive, nurturing relationship with the pupil to foster progress
Person Specification
- Experience with Autism and Speech & Language Difficulties in a classroom or similar setting
- Familiarity with PECS and Makaton
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrable patience and the ability to form strong relationships with pupils
- A passion for education and supporting children with special needs
