Sports Mentor
Location: SEND Secondary School, Bootle
Employer: Chalk Education
Contract: Full-time / Long-term (term time)
Start Date: ASAP

Chalk Education is working in partnership with a specialist SEND secondary school in Bootle to recruit a dedicated and enthusiastic Sports Mentor to support young people with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone passionate about sport, physical activity, and making a positive difference in the lives of young people with additional needs.

The Role

As a Sports Mentor, you will use sport and physical activity as a tool to engage, motivate, and support pupils both academically and emotionally. You will work closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams to help pupils develop confidence, teamwork, emotional regulation, and positive behaviour.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting pupils with Autism in a secondary SEND setting
  • Delivering and assisting with structured sports and physical activities
  • Using sport to promote engagement, resilience, and social skills
  • Supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups
  • Helping to manage behaviour positively and consistently
  • Acting as a positive role model and trusted mentor

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEND, particularly Autism (desirable)
  • A background or strong interest in sport, PE, or physical activity
  • Calm, patient, and resilient approach
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Passion for supporting young people with additional needs
  • Relevant qualifications or coaching badges are beneficial but not essential
