About the Role
Chalk Education are proud to be partnering with a welcoming primary school in Wavertree to appoint an Interim SENCO and Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).
This vital leadership position will support the Headteacher and Deputy Head in the strategic direction of SEND and Safeguarding. You’ll play a key role in ensuring every child’s academic, emotional, and social needs are met within a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
SENCO Duties
- Lead and manage SEND provision in accordance with the SEND Code of Practice.
- Coordinate assessments, reviews, and EHCP processes.
- Monitor pupil progress and implement targeted interventions.
- Provide staff training and ongoing support in inclusive classroom practice.
- Act as the main point of contact for external agencies and professionals.
- Maintain detailed records and report effectively to senior leaders.
Deputy DSL Duties
- Support the school in meeting all safeguarding and child protection requirements.
- Act as an initial point of contact for safeguarding concerns.
- Manage and monitor cases under the direction of the DSL.
- Deliver staff safeguarding training and promote a culture of vigilance.
- Liaise with external partners and report to leaders and governors as required.
Pastoral & Family Engagement
- Build positive relationships with parents, carers, and families.
- Provide pastoral support to pupils, fostering emotional wellbeing and resilience.
- Promote a whole-school ethos of inclusion, respect, and understanding.
About You
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated professional who:
- Holds (or is working towards) the National SENCO Award.
- Has proven experience in SEND leadership and provision.
- Possesses up-to-date safeguarding knowledge (DSL training desirable).
- Demonstrates a commitment to inclusive education and pupil wellbeing.
- Can inspire and motivate staff, pupils, and families through collaboration and support.
