SEMH Teaching Assistant – South Liverpool (Primary School)

Chalk Education are proud to be supporting a specialist SEMH primary school in South Liverpool that provides a nurturing and inclusive environment for children with social, emotional and mental health needs, many of whom have experienced attachment and trauma-related difficulties.

We are looking for a compassionate, resilient and proactive SEMH Teaching Assistant to join the school’s dedicated team and help support pupils in achieving both personal and academic growth.

About the Role:

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will:

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with social, emotional and behavioural needs.
• Build positive, trusting relationships that help children feel safe, valued and ready to learn.
• Support the class teacher with tailored learning plans and therapeutic approaches.
• Use trauma-informed and restorative practices to help pupils regulate emotions and manage behaviour.
• Collaborate closely with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to ensure holistic support.

About You:

We’re looking for someone who is:

• Experienced in supporting children with SEMH, attachment or trauma needs (school or care background welcomed).
• Calm, patient and understanding, with excellent communication and empathy skills.
• Able to use initiative and work as part of a supportive team.
• Passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning and reach their full potential.
