Are you an experienced education professional who specialises in supporting Primary (5 – 11-year-olds) aged children with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) issues to develop? Can you engage vulnerable children and support them in fulfilling their potential?

Chalk is recruiting for Teaching Assistants to work in a dynamic Alternative Provision based in Chesterfield.

Job Description

This Alternative Provision caters for vulnerable young people aged 5 to 16 who have been excluded from mainstream education. You will be required to support leaner engagement through collaborative planning and delivery of content. You will be creative in your approach and engage the learners you work with to build strong professional relationships.

This leading alternative provision in Chesterfield has an Ofsted ‘Good’ grading and provides a bespoke curriculum to children/young people who have been permanently excluded from mainstream education. Students have a range of SEND including Social Emotional & Mental Health, Moderate Learning Difficulties and Autistic Spectrum Disorder. Pupils may display challenging behaviour, so excellent behaviour management is essential with knowledge of a range of de-escalation techniques.

The provision boasts excellent facilities and a welcoming team which is underpinned by strong leadership; and the best interests of the children/young people are central to everything they do.

Alongside the staff you will be responsible for safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children and young people.

To be considered for this Primary Teaching Assistant role you will need:

  • Experience working with young people with a range SEND including SEMH
  • Excellent behaviour management with knowledge of de-escalation techniques
  • A positive attitude with a calm but firm approach
  • Clear understanding of all relevant Safeguarding procedures relating to vulnerable young people

  • Enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service
