A welcoming primary school in Newham, E16, is on the lookout for a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a Year 1 student with Autism and Speech and Language Communication Needs (SLCN). This is a full-time, long-term role starting ASAP, offering the chance to make a lasting impact.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Personalized Learning Support: Adapt lesson materials and maintain the student’s focus, ensuring an engaging and accessible learning experience.
  • Behaviour Management: Implement tailored strategies in partnership with the SEN team, fostering a positive and inclusive atmosphere.
  • Communication Development: Support the use of alternative communication methods, such as PECS or Makaton, to help the student express needs confidently.
  • Social & Emotional Growth: Encourage social interaction and emotional regulation, assisting the student in navigating both structured lessons and unstructured activities.
  • Promoting Independence: Guide the student in developing self-care, hygiene, and daily routine skills, building their confidence and autonomy.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience working with children with Autism and Speech and Language needs.
  • A compassionate, patient individual who can build strong, positive relationships.
  • Familiarity with PECS or Makaton (advantageous).

Additional requirements:

  • References confirming suitability for role
  • Commitment to Safeguarding
  • Enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service
  • Eligibility to work in the UK
