About the Role
Chalk Education are proud to be working in partnership with a specialist SEN primary school in Alferton who are looking to appoint a dedicated One-to-One Teaching Assistant to support a primary-aged pupil with a hearing impairment.
The successful candidate will hold a British Sign Language (BSL) Level 2 qualification and have the ability to use BSL confidently to aid communication and learning.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 classroom support for a pupil who uses British Sign Language (BSL) as part of their communication.
- Use BSL to interpret, explain, and reinforce learning to ensure full participation.
- Adapt learning materials and activities to meet the pupil’s individual needs.
- Support the pupil’s social, emotional, and communication development throughout the school day.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO, and external professionals to deliver tailored support plans.
- Promote independence, confidence, and inclusion in all areas of school life.
Requirements
Essential:
- BSL Level 2 qualification (or higher).
- Experience working with children in an SEN or primary school environment.
- A caring, patient, and adaptable approach to supporting children with additional needs.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
Desirable:
- Experience supporting pupils with hearing impairment or communication difficulties.
- Knowledge of strategies for supporting SEN learners.
- Relevant Teaching Assistant qualification (Level 2 or 3).
