Description

GCSE Intervention Tutor (One-to-One, Home-Based) – Anxiety & Autism Support

Position: GCSE Intervention Tutor (1:1 Home Tuition)
Hours: 4 hours per day, 4 days per week (16 hours weekly)

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and patient GCSE Intervention Tutor to provide one-to-one tutoring within a pupil’s home. The learner is a KS4 student with autism and significant anxiety, who requires a structured, calm and emotionally supportive approach to re-engage with education.

Tuition will cover GCSE English, Maths, Science and History, with a combination of academic support and confidence-building through personalised learning strategies. You will play an important role in helping the pupil overcome barriers, manage anxiety around learning, and build steady progress across core subjects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality, personalised GCSE English, Maths, Science and History tuition in the pupil’s home, on a 1:1 basis.
  • Build a trusting and consistent relationship to help the pupil feel comfortable and secure.
  • Plan and deliver adaptable lessons that meet the pupil’s cognitive, emotional and sensory needs.
  • Break tasks into smaller, manageable steps to reduce overwhelm and support anxiety management.
  • Use structured routines, predictable transitions and low-arousal approaches tailored to autism.
  • Encourage engagement through gentle motivation and positive reinforcement.
  • Track progress and maintain accurate session records for parents and commissioning professionals.
  • Follow safeguarding procedures and maintain professional boundaries at all times.

Requirements

  • Experience supporting young people with autism (ASC) and anxiety.
  • Ability to teach GCSE English, Maths, Science and History confidently.
  • Strong behaviour management and emotional-regulation strategies.
  • A calm, patient, empathetic and consistent approach to tuition.
  • Excellent communication skills and professionalism when working in a family home.
  • Enhanced DBS certificate (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Reliability, punctuality and the ability to work independently.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal tutor will be compassionate, flexible and skilled in supporting pupils with additional needs. You understand how anxiety and autism influence learning and will create a supportive, predictable environment within the home. You will encourage the pupil at their pace, celebrate small achievements, and ensure each session is positive and purposeful.
