Male SEMH Teaching Assistant – Childwall
Location: Childwall, Liverpool
Contract: Full-time / Long-term

Chalk Education is proud to be supporting a fantastic school in Childwall that is seeking a proactive, confident and resilient Male SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team. The school works with pupils who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and is looking for a strong male role model who can build positive relationships and provide consistent support.
About the Role
This role involves supporting pupils both in and out of the classroom, including during sports and physical activities. You will also be required to assist in supervising male pupils in changing rooms, therefore the school has specified that this position is open to male applicants only — this is an occupational requirement in line with the Equality Act 2010.
Responsibilities
- Support students with SEMH needs on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.
- Act as a positive male role model, building trust and encouraging engagement.
- Assist with sports sessions and supervise pupils in male changing areas.
- Confidently support pupils as they move between classrooms and activities.
- De-escalate challenging behaviour and promote emotional regulation.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral teams.
Requirements
- Experience working with SEMH pupils or young people with additional needs (essential).
- A confident, proactive and resilient approach to managing behaviour.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm and consistent under pressure.
- A valid DBS check (or willingness to apply for one).
