Description
Chalk Education is recruiting an enthusiastic and resilient support worker to support young people in a unique outdoor learning environment. Working on a 2:1 basis with a qualified tutor, this role blends education, behaviour support, and real-world experiences to help students re-engage with learning outside of a traditional classroom.
What Makes This Role Different?
Instead of four walls and whiteboards, you’ll be supporting learning through hands-on, real-life activities such as museum visits, sports sessions, fishing, library trips, and other community-based experiences.
You’ll be working with young people who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and may display challenging behaviour. This means resilience, patience, and consistency are essential — but the impact you’ll make is enormous.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the lead tutor in planning and delivering creative, practical learning activities
- Build positive relationships with students to encourage engagement and trust
- Implement behaviour management strategies tailored to individual needs
- Assist with off-site sessions and help maintain a safe, supportive environment
What We’re Looking For:
- At least 2 years of experience working in UK schools or alternative provisions
- Previous experience supporting students with SEMH or challenging behaviour
- A calm, confident, and adaptable approach
- A genuine passion for helping young people succeed outside of mainstream education
- A full UK driving licence is desirable due to off-site activities
This is a long-term, full-time position with the potential to become permanent for the right person.
If you have proven UK-based experience and want to make a real difference in a young person’s life, we’d love to hear from you.
