SEN Teaching Assistant – Primary School – North London (Full-Time, Long-Term)

Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Full-time, long-term
Year Groups: Years 2–5

We are recruiting an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive North London primary school. This is a long-term opportunity supporting pupils across Years 2–5, working closely with class teachers and the school’s experienced SEN team.

  • Leaders are committed to inclusion and ensure pupils with SEND receive high-quality support.

  • The curriculum is well structured, with clear expectations and strong progress across year groups.

Role Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with a range of additional needs (including communication, learning and behavioural needs).

  • Adapt and model tasks to help pupils access the curriculum in Years 2–5.

  • Use strategies set by the SENCO and teachers to support emotional regulation and engagement.

  • Implement consistent behaviour management approaches.

  • Support learning during whole-class, group and intervention activities.

  • Build strong, positive relationships with pupils, promoting confidence and independence.

  • Work collaboratively with teachers and support staff, contributing to a safe, supportive classroom environment.

Candidate Requirements

  • Previous SEN experience is essential (ASD, SEMH, speech & language, or complex needs).

  • Experience supporting pupils in primary settings (Years 1–6).

  • Confident adapting work, giving clear instructions and using positive reinforcement.

  • Ability to remain calm, patient and proactive in challenging situations.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

  • Available full-time, Monday–Friday, and able to commit for the full academic year.
