A small, dedicated SEN college in Waltham Forest, E17, is actively searching for enthusiastic and resilient Special Needs Teaching Assistants to join their team in September 2024. This institution serves students aged 19-25 with Autism, SLD, and Complex Needs and is committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

Job Description

As a Special Needs Teaching Assistant, you will provide essential general classroom support and may also be involved in one-to-one and small group work. The successful SEN teaching assistant will demonstrate a strong commitment to supporting learners with diverse needs, exhibit flexibility in their approach, and work effectively as part of a collaborative team.

Key qualities sought include excellent communication skills, patience, and a genuine enthusiasm for working with young people with special educational needs. Previous SEND experience is required, and a willingness to assist with personal care is essential. You will collaborate with dedicated staff to ensure the safety and well-being of the students, playing a crucial role in safeguarding their welfare.

Experience with Makaton, PECs, and sensory approaches is advantageous but not mandatory. The college is also keen to hear from individuals with a background in support or care work who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people.

This is a full-time, long-term role starting ASAP, continuing until the end of the academic year in July 2025.

To Be Considered for This Role, You Will Need:

  • Essential: Previous experience in a SEND setting.
  • Highly Desirable: Familiarity with Makaton and PECS.
  • Valuable Skills: Strong behaviour management abilities.
