Job Opportunity: SEMH Behaviour Support Assistant – Dingle (L8), Liverpool
Full-Time | Mainstream Primary School | Monday–Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm

Chalk Education is currently seeking a committed and compassionate SEMH Behaviour Support Assistant to join a welcoming mainstream primary school in the Dingle (L8) area of Liverpool. This full-time position is ideal for someone who is calm under pressure, patient, and confident in setting firm but fair expectations with pupils who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

You will be supporting children who may display challenging behaviours, helping them regulate emotions, develop positive coping strategies, and thrive within the classroom environment. Strong communication and negotiation skills are essential, as well as the ability to build trusting relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group SEMH support within a mainstream primary setting
  • Use de-escalation and restorative strategies to manage challenging behaviour
  • Encourage positive learning attitudes and emotional resilience
  • Commitment to safeguarding
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and outside agencies to support pupil progress
  • Maintain firm boundaries while remaining compassionate and understanding

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience supporting children with SEMH needs (school, youth work or similar)
  • Strong negotiation skills with a calm, patient approach
  • Ability to set clear expectations and maintain consistent boundaries
  • A proactive, dependable, and resilient individual
  • DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one
