Chalk Education is a specialist in additional learning needs and is currently recruiting for Additional Needs Learning Support Assistants or Teaching Assistants to work across several mainstream and special schools located within Denbighshire.

What is an ALN Learning Support / Teaching Assistant?

ALN stands for Additional Learning Needs, which can include Mental Health, Anxiety disorders, Complex needs, Physical disabilities, Autism, ADHD, Oppositional Defiant disorder, Downs Syndrome, Attachment disorder and hearing and visual impairment.

What are the duties?

You will be supporting either an individual child or small groups of children in the classroom with numeracy, literacy, reading and skills. Some children will require support with anything from challenging behaviours, medication, speech and language, personal care, hoists, medication, or nurturing. Alongside the staff you will also be responsible for safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children and young people.

Our schools are friendly places to work, with a supportive network of Teachers, Teaching Assistants, and other professionals.

We work with mainstream Primary and Secondary schools, Residential settings, Inclusion Units, Youth Offending Units and Special Schools. We can offer flexible working hours part-time, full-time, short-term, long-term, and permanent roles.

 

What experience do I need to have?

Experience of working with children or young people. We are looking for candidates who are caring, calm, resilient, adaptable, approachable and have good listening skills. Experience in any of the following would be beneficial.

Manual handling, personal care, toileting, peg feeding, tracheostomy, hoists, wheelchair use, epilepsy, medication, additional learning needs, PECS, Makaton, BSL. However not all our roles require skills in these areas.

 

 

To be considered for this role you will need:

  • A minimum of 3 months experience of working with children or young people
  • Experienced in additional needs
  • Behaviour Management

  • References confirming suitability for role
  • Commitment to Safeguarding
  • Enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service or willing to apply
  • Registered with EWC or willing to apply
  • Eligibility to work in the UK
